HONOLULU – Marjaneh Shaker, a smart and vivacious 10-year-old from Honolulu, Hawaii, has been named 2014 Hawaii State Goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

As the new Goodwill Ambassador, Marjaneh will make public appearances throughout the community to encourage volunteers in the Association’s year-round educational and fund-raising campaigns and will also take part in a number of special events.

Marjaneh is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morad Shaker. Her condition was diagnosed as congenital muscular dystrophy at the age of one.  Congenital muscular dystrophy is one of the muscle diseases covered by MDA’s research and care programs.

Marjaneh is a loving older sister to her siblings Alex, age seven, and Anahita, age six months. She is home schooled and in the fifth grade. Marjaneh is an extremely bright, outgoing, and happy young girl. She enjoys baking, cooking, crafting, and is very skilled with her computer. MDA Hawaii is fortunate to have Marjaneh as the 2014 Goodwill Ambassador.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the world’s leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases. It does so by funding worldwide research; by providing comprehensive health care services and support to MDA families nationwide; and by rallying communities to fight back through advocacy, fundraising and local engagement.
