Akaka Bill -- Series of 3 Lectures Cover 3 Points of View

BY KEN CONKLIN - The Hawaiian Government Reorganization bill, H.R.2314 and S.1011, is also known informally as the Akaka bill. The bill is highly controversial. It has been pending in Congress for ten years. In the current 111th Congress, it has passed the House of Representatives and is awaiting action in the Senate. President Obama has said he will sign it if it passes.

There are three major conflicting viewpoints about the bill.

A series of three lecture/discussions on three successive Sundays will explore the three viewpoints (see below for names and viewpoints of the presenters). The dates are September 12, September 19, and September 26, 2010. These presentations will take place 9-10 AM each of those three Sundays in Weaver Hall at Church of the Crossroads (United Church of Christ), 1212 University Ave., Honolulu, Hawaii 96826. 1. Sunday Sept 12.
Kenneth R. Conklin, Ph.D. opposing the bill on grounds of civil rights and support for unity and equality. Why the Akaka bill is historically, legally, and morally wrong; with bad consequences for all Hawaii's people including those with native ancestry.

3. Sunday Sept. 26
“Passage of the Akaka Bill will be detrimental to the cause of a Sovereign Hawaiian Nation” – Kekuni Blaisdel M.D., Kanaka Maoli Independence Working Group & Dexter Keaumoku Kaiama, Attorney at Law, Hui Pu.
