He produced epic films in Hollywood for almost five decades and
started Paramount Pictures. His name was Cecil B. DeMille and he
died this day, Jan. 21, 1959. His best-known films include:
Samson and Delilah, The Ten Commandments and The Greatest Show on
Earth, for which he won an Academy Award. At the opening of The Ten
Commandments, Cecil B. DeMille stated: “Man has made 32 million laws
since the Commandments were handed down to Moses on Mount
Sinai…but he has never improved on God’s law…. They are the
charter and guide of human liberty, for there can be no liberty
without the law.”
