Friends of local bassist Steve Jones have organized a benefit concert and fundraiser at Studio 909 at the Musicians Union on Dec. 12 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Steve was recently diagnosed with stage-four cancer and has been undergoing a variety of tests and treatments.

“We decided the best way to help Steve is with the music that he knows and loves,” said co-event organizer Loretta Ables Sayre. “There also will be a silent auction featuring holiday gifts including lessons by local musicians and gift certificates to some of Honolulu’s best restaurants.”

More than 20 of Hawaii’s top local jazz musicians and singers are scheduled to perform. The “house band” for the night will be comprised of Dan Del Negro on piano, Darryl Pellegrini on drums, Dean Taba on bass and DeShannon Higa on horn.

Singers scheduled to perform include: Jimmy Borges, Amy Hanaialii, Teresa Bright, Shari Lynn, Kip Wilborn, Mihana Souza (with Tootsie Cazimero), Keahi Conjugacion, and Rocky Brown.

Additional musicians scheduled to perform include: Reggie Padilla on horn, Noel Okimoto on drums/percussion, John Kolivas on bass, Kit Ebersbach on piano,

Von Baron on drums, Jim Howard on piano/flute, Tim Tsukiyama on saxophone, Brian Kessler on guitar and Zanuck Lindsey on guitar with Kapala.

“The musician union has graciously donated the room for our use for that evening,” said Natalie Aczon, co-event organizer. “We also will feature no host drinks and delicious pupus prepared by Chef Chai for purchase.”

Tickets are available for $50 per person with all proceeds going directly to Steve.  To purchase tickets or donate to Steve, visit www.eventbrite.com/event/9254357031 or www.eventbrite.com and search for Friends of Stephen Jones.
