Brush fire continues to burn ‘out of control’ near Saddle Road on Hawaii Island

REPORT FROM HAWAII COUNTY – The Hawaii Fire Department reports that the brush fire in the area of the 14 mile mark of Highway 190 continues to burn out of control.  The fire is located just south or Kona side of the Highway 190 and Saddle Road junction and is situated on the east or mauka side of the highway.

No homes or property are threatened at this time.

Emergency crews are on scene and Highway 190 remains closed to all traffic due to the heavy smoke conditions and active burning along the highway. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to use alternate routes if possible.

Traffic is being detoured through the Waikoloa Road, Old Saddle Road, and Kaiminani Drive in Kona.
