CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are warning the public about a recent rash of gas theft. Since May, there have been nine reported cases from Halawa Valley to East Oahu. Most of the thefts occurred during the night hours.

Thieves are targeting parked vehicles with plastic tanks, particularly SUV’s and pick-up trucks. The plastic tanks are easier to drill into and there is a less chance of a catastrophic spark. Siphoning is still the most common theft tactic.
