When asked by CNS News recently, Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) said he is “not aware” of the Constitution giving Congress the authority to make individuals purchase health insurance, as health care bills in both the House and Senate requires.

Senator Akaka simplistically added that the Constitution is there to help people “live a good life.”

Since we re-elect our Congressional delegation, election after election, apparently a lot of people believe this Kumbaya Constitution. It is not Remember the Alamo in Hawaii, it is Remember the Earmarks!

Following our Congressional leaders’ arguments for spending our money, some of us probably believe we should require every citizen to obtain their own health care, medical and dental, from any company and state and then give every single citizen the money each year to pay for it all. That’s the trickle down mentality of the present members of our Hawaii’s Congressional delegation.

But our Congressional Representatives Neil Abercrombie and Mazie Hirono, who voted for the House Health Bill, are spendthrifts, but not foolish.

They were silent when the Democrat Majority House Rules Committee rejected 11 attempts, according to CNS, that would have required them as members of Congress and other government officials to be enrolled in our new federal insurance plan, the same Health Care plan they imposed on us, the American people.

After all, the Constitution is there to help people live a good life, especially them.
