Parents of Hawaii’s public school students held out hope yesterday that federal Judge A. Wallace Tashima would rule in favor of a motion for preliminary injunction filed by Hawaii Attorneys Eric Seitz and Carl Varady to end school furloughs for special needs and other K-12 students.

In response to the State budget crisis, the Department of Education (DOE) and the Hawaii State Teachers’ Association (HSTA) agreed on September 22 to 17 furlough days this year
