In the first quarter of 2013, the First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) Charitable Foundation donated more than $49,000 to local nonprofit service organizations, including the Hawaii Community Foundation, Hawaii Charter School Network, American Red Cross, and Helping Hands Hawaii.

“Hawaii businesses share responsibility for the long-term social and economic welfare of our state,” said Allen Uyeda, FICOH’s president and CEO. “Foundation gifts are one way we can give back to the community and help strengthen Hawaii for this and future generations.”

Established in 1998, the FICOH Charitable Foundation focuses on Education & Career Development; Economic & Workforce Development; Family, Social Services & Healthcare; and Civic, Culture and the Arts. The Foundation also matches gifts to eligible nonprofits made by FICOH associates.

First Insurance is also an active participant in community volunteer efforts. All FICOH associates are automatically members of the First Community Action Team, or First CAT, and are encouraged to participate in volunteer activities. As part of a longstanding partnership with Hawaii Meals on Wheels, First CAT volunteers deliver hot meals to elderly and homebound community members in the Punchbowl area every Thursday and Friday, adding up to more than 500 meal deliveries a year.
