In 2001, a doctorate candidate, Elise Bassin, at Harvard University reported in her thesis study that young males under 20 years old who drank fluoridated water had an increased risk of osteosarcoma or bone cancer.
She was awarded her doctorate degree but her thesis was never published. Her mentor, however, reported otherwise that there was no connection between fluoridation and osteosarcoma. It was later discovered that he was also the editor of ”’The Colgate Oral Health Report”’, an obvious conflict of interest since his sponsor uses fluoride in their toothpaste. As a result of this coverup, 11 EPA unions representing over 7,000 scientists, toxicologists, engineers and other workers at the EPA are calling for a congressional investigation and a moratorium on fluoridation.
This would not be the first time that attempts to suppress adverse scientific information about water fluoridation would be made.
Dr. Phyllis Mullenix, who was head of the Forsyth Dental Research College, was threatened with termination if she published a paper showing that sodium fluoride affected the central nervous system of rats. She did it anyway as a true scientist would.
Dr. William Marcus, a senior toxicologist of the EPA was threatened with termination when he refused to downgrade research results from carcinogen to equivocal, that showed male rats may develop osteosarcoma from exposure to sodium fluoride. He did it anyway as a true scientist would.
Fortunately, as a result of his termination, the EPA union Headquarters in Washington DC got involved and had his termination overturned. It was this action that made the EPA union realize how bad fluoride could be on the human body. Members of the EPA union are the only hope for true representation and protection of the taxpayers from the political or economical agendas of management.
