A former television reporter, who by many accounts, was one of the friendliest journalists in Hawaii, just died.

Lyle Galderia, 59, who worked as a reporter and anchor at three Hawaii television stations over 30 years including KHNL 8, died following health complications at a Honolulu hospital, according to a report in Hawaii News Now.

His son Kyle told Hawaii News Now: “Just hours before his passing, Dad and I shared laughs over a few episodes of Seinfeld–one of our favorite shows (which, ironically, is on TV in the background as I write this).

“I believe it is that infectious laughter and booming voice that he would want all those that knew him to remember as we endure this rough time. And, fittingly his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, posted a huge win that evoked a big fist pump from Dad.

“It still brings me great honor and pride when folks all over the state mistake me for him…it always allows me the opportunity to say, “Yep, that’s my Dad.”

While he worked as a news anchor and chief political reporter, Galderia was best known for his popular segments “Cheap Eats” and “Does it Work” on KHNL-TV.

After leaving the news business, Galdeira obtained his real estate license and worked for Prudential Locations beginning in 2006.
