Four Public Meetings to Discuss Potential Closing of Hawaii U.S. Post Offices Set to Start Thursday

HAWAII – Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono,(D-Hawaii) reminds Hawaii residents that starting Thursday the United States Postal Service (USPS) will host a series of community town hall meetings to discuss the proposed closing of four post offices throughout the state.

The USPS recently announced it may close some 3,700 post offices across the country. The four Hawaii post offices being discussed are the Uptown Honolulu Post Office and the Kapolei Post Office on Oahu, the Kalaupapa Post Office on Molokai, and the Hanamaulu Post Office on Kauai.

The dates, times, and locations of the upcoming public meetings are as follows:

Sept. 8          11:00am-1:00pm      Uptown Station 1170 Nuuanu Ave # 105

Sept. 8           5:00pm-7:00pm      Kapolei High School Cafeteria

Sept. 20        11:00am-1:00pm     McVeigh Hall, Kalaupapa National Historical Park

Sept. 22        9:30am-10:30am      Hanamaulu Station, Lihue, Kauai

The USPS has also mailed surveys to Hawaii residents to gather public input.  Surveys must be received by the USPS by September 30, 2011.
