The Animal Care Foundation and Hawaii Reporter have launched a partnership to introduce Oahu’s loveable furry friends – dogs and cats – in need of adoption.

The Animal Care Foundation, a “no kill” facility located at 6650 Hawaii Kai Drive, Suite 105 in Hawaii Kai, (phone: 808-396-3333/ contact@acfanimals.org) is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., except for Tuesdays when the foundation is closed.

It is the best place to adopt a pet, according to staffer Robyn Washousky, because The Animal Care Foundation is the only animal adoption agency offering comprehensive preventative care such as heart worm tests and vaccinations before adoptions. The non-profit 501-c-3 organization also is making the effort to match animals’ needs/personalities to families’ needs/personalities.

The Foundation has a referral rewards program as well. “When people refer their friends and family to us, and the adoption is finalized, they receive $10 towards services at our clinic or in the form of a check,” Washousky said.

Piper

The animals currently up for adoption are featured on Facebook every week: www.facebook.com/theacfhawaii

Each week, at least one dog and one cat will be featured.

Piper, a 2 year old Boxer Mix, is up for adoption. She was rescued from the Hawaiian Humane Society. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.

She is great with other dogs, cats, and all people. She has a ton of energy so would do best with a yard and an active family.

Madlyn is a talker and a lover. If you want to hear a familiar voice as soon as you come home, you should come meet this girl.

She is nursing a small injury on the back of one of her hind legs but with antibiotics and soft surfaces this should eventually heal.

She is 8 years old and otherwise happy and healthy, good with people, kids and other cats. Dogs she can take or leave… come down and meet her today.

Like Piper and Madlyn, each of the animals at the shelter has a special story to share.

If you would like to bring a loveable animal into your life, please stop in to visit the shelter from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., send us an e-mail, or visit the website www.acfanimals.org for more information.

In addition to adoptions, the Animal CARE Foundation promotes:

Madlyn
  • The humane trapping/neutering/return of outdoor dogs and cats
  • Low or no cost neutering of animals for families, as well as for other rescue organizations across the island
  • Medical support of feral cat caretakers
  • Abandonment prevention assistance for families in need
  • public education on the effectiveness of trap/neuter/return and the importance of spaying and neutering family animals, and
  • Lobbying for a statewide no-kill animal shelter program.

“It is our sincere hope that, through education and advocacy, humans will learn to stop treating animals as commodities and start treating them as emotional beings equal to ourselves. Only then we will truly conquer the disposable animal problem,” the shelter director said.
