Future Generations Will Suffer if Social Security System Not Reformed

The arguments over Social Security reform seem crystal clear to me.

Almost no one challenges the fact that Social Security benefits must be reduced beginning around 2042. That means our kids and grandkids will get a smaller benefit than we do, even though they will pay more into the system than we did. Both political parties agree on that. But here’s the big difference: Republicans want to do something about it and Democrats don’t.

President George W. Bush has proposed private savings accounts as a supplement to the Social Security program. Income from these private savings accounts will replace the projected reductions in Social Security benefits for our kids and grandkids. Oh yeah, and the accounts will be part of the beneficiaries
