HONOLULU, HAWAII – Paulo Salas-Selem, 40, of Kapolei pleaded guilty yesterday to three counts of Forgery in the Second Degree and four counts of Theft in the Second Degree before the Honorable Virginia L. Crandall in the Circuit Court of the First Circuit.
An investigation conducted by the Department of Attorney General revealed that between December 2007 and April 2008, while serving as the Makakilo Kapolei Honokai Hale Little League (MKHHLL) treasurer, Salas-Selem forged three MKHHLL checks and stole $11,500 of the organization’s funds.
The stolen funds were deposited into Salas-Selem’s personal bank account and used to pay his mortgage, credit cards, and other expenses. The stolen funds were from little league registration fees and fundraising.
Salas-Selem will be sentenced on December 13, 2010, before Judge Crandall. Salas-Selem has filed a motion for deferred acceptance of his guilty pleas. The Department of the Attorney General will ask the Court to deny the motion.
