In Wake of Botched Concert, University Students Organize Their Own Event

In the wake of a botched $200,000 concert organized by University of Hawaii officials, UH Mānoa students rally together to organize a free concert in celebration of Lā Kūʻokoʻa, Hawaiian Independence Day, on November 28 beginning at 4:30PM on Bachman Lawn.

The Aloha 'Āina Concert, as it's being heralded, was entirely funded and organized by UH students from the student group, Makawalu.

Concert flyers have flooded the social media network, Facebook, and various college campus throughout O'ahu, receiving great feedback and support from the community.

This Lā Kūʻokoʻa celebration is the only known one of its kind on the island of O'ahu and is expected to gain hundreds of attendees with confirmation from numerous community organizations, college student organizations, and schools.

Lā Kūʻokoʻa was established in 1843 by King Kamehameha III Kauikeaouli to celebrate the international recognition of the Hawaiian Kingdom by Great Britain and France.

A year later, the United States would grant that same recognition.
