There’s just 16 more days before the conclusion of the Hawaii Legislature’s 2013 session.

On Tuesday and Thursday this week, lawmakers in both Houses will debate and vote on bills as they prepare for Thursday’s crossover of bills from one House to the other.

This is the second crossover of the session.

Next week, lawmakers will meet in various conference committees to negotiate differences between bill versions.

This is the most difficult part of the legislature for the public to follow, because there are more than 200 conference committees that will be scheduled, with several going on simultaneously.

In addition, much of the negotiations are done out of public view. It is not uncommon for bill negotiations to get reschedule several times before lawmakers make a final decision on whether the bill will move forward.

The legislature ends May 2.
