BY FORMER CONGRESSMAN ED CASE, D-HAWAII (2002-2007) – My pledge to you is to deliver strong effective leadership for our Hawai’i and country in the United States Senate over the next generation.

I’ve carried the responsibilities and obligations of leadership throughout my careers in our private and public sectors. Here are some examples of my leadership positions and actions over the last quarter century:

  • Managing Attorney, Bays Lung Rose & Holma (20 attorneys, 20 staff) (2010-2011)
  • Ranking Member (senior Democrat), Subcommittee on Livestock and Horticulture, U. S. House Committee on Agriculture (2005-2006)
  • Whip (third ranking) and Executive Board, Congressional Asian and Pacific American Caucus (2005-2006)
  • Papahanaumokuakea National Marine Monument: drafted/introduced bill in U. S. House to create largest marine monument in our history; worked with administration to implement administratively (2005-2006)
  • PAYGO: advocated with colleagues for pay-as-you-go budgeting rules, later adopted by President Obama and Congress (2002-2007)
  • Communication leadership: 172 Talk Stories throughout Hawai’i and with military at Fort Polk and in Iraq (2002-2007)
  • Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard: with congressional delegation and Hawai’i leaders, successfully led opposition to closure (2005)
  • Vice Chair, U. S. House Democratic Caucus Tax Policy and Budget Task Force (2004)
  • Ranking Member (senior Democrat and co-leader), U. S. House delegations to Iraq, Kuwait and Germany (2003), Afghanistan and Pakistan (2004) and Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt (2005)
  • Majority Leader/Chair, Policy Committee, Hawai’i State House of Representatives (1999-2000)
  • New Economy legislative package: drafted/implementated with Hawai’i State House colleagues (1999)
  • Civil service reform (advocated in Hawai’i State House throughout, especially 1998-1999)
  • Assistant Majority Floor Leader, Hawai’i State House of Representatives (1997-1998)
  • Broken Trust/Bishop Estate reforms (Hawai’i State House, throughout)
  • Chair, Committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Hawai’i State House (1997-1998)
  • Managing Attorney, Carlsmith Ball (over 100 attorneys and 200 staff) (1992-1994)
  • Chair, Manoa Neighborhood Board (1987-1989)
