Former Republican Governor Linda Lingle is just three to four points behind her Democratic opponent, Congresswoman Mazie Hirono, in the coming U.S. Senate race. The poll conducted by Jan van Lohuizen over 7-nights (October 9 to 16) considered the opinions of 1,200 likely voters statewide.

“As we’ve been saying, our race is a statistical dead-heat,” said Lenny Klompus, communications director for Lingle’s Senate campaign.

Klompus pointed out Lingle beat Hirono before in the 2002 race for governor. “With 20 days to go, and early walk-in voting beginning Monday, Linda Lingle is perfectly positioned to win this race against Mazie Hirono – just as she’s done before.”

But Hirono’s campaign manager, Betsy Lin, dismissed the “poll memo,” as it was referred to by van Lohuizen

“What the Lingle campaign describes as a ‘poll memo’ is just an incomplete paragraph that raises more questions than it answers.  It’s odd Linda Lingle is willing to publicly declare, ‘Mitt Romney would be a better president for Hawaii’ than President Obama — yet refuses to publicly back up her reputed ‘poll results’ with any actual proof,” Lin said.

“With her loyalty to the narrow, national Republican, Romney-Ryan agenda clearly established, Linda Lingle is falling well out of favor with the people of Hawaii. That’s what public polls show, that’s what our reputable internal polling shows and it’s what we believe Hawaii voters will prove on election day.  And, the Lingle campaign knows it,” Lin added.

  1. I believe Hawaiians are too smart to be sucked in to the national spew that Hirono has been throwing around. I hope the people of Hawaii show her that we really don't care what the national parties do, we care about Hawaii. No doubt Ed Case would have been the best candidate to reach across the isle and work smartly for Hawaii, but that didn't happen. With Hirono "knowing" only what Geo Bush, Sarah Palin, Romney, and "the republicans" would do instead of what she has done/will do, I have to regretfully vote for Lingle. All Hirono did this entire campaign was profess verse and chapter from the national party's handbook. As Albert Einstein said, " Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Obama works across the isle, we know what Mazie thinks of republicans, hard to work with people that you feel that way about.

  2. It's really a shame the IRS didn't think of this and start including pie charts showing federal revenue and outlays at the back of each packet of federal income tax form instructions that gets sent out to every household every year, because that would have been a revolutionary change, no doubt.
