I wanted to take a moment to write directly to you, the voters of Hawaii’s 1st district. Hawaii has special meaning for me — it’s where I was born and spent much of my time as a child.

At this moment, there’s a special election underway to fill your vacant Congressional seat, and it may come down to the wire.

There are two outstanding Democrats in the race — Ed Case and Colleen Hanabusa. I need your help to make sure I get another Democratic ally in Congress who will help me work for the change this country needs.

The election is being conducted in a new way for Hawaii — every registered voter was mailed a ballot, and the only way to vote is to mail it back or drop it off in person.

Have you sent yours back or turned it in yet? If not, will you make a plan to do so soon?

You can find out more about the new voting procedures here.

To be counted, your ballots can either be returned in person by May 20th at an eligible drop-off location, or be received via mail by May 22nd.

Please make sure you’ve figured out how you’ll be submitting your ballot, and find any additional information you might need — including drop-off locations — here:

In just a few weeks, you’ll have a new representative in Congress — and I hope it will be a Democrat like Colleen Hanabusa or Ed Case, who will work with me for change.

Please take the time to vote, and make sure your friends and family do so as well.
