REPORT FROM KAUAI POLICE – Police worked with officials from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) to remove an illegal camp site in Hanapēpē last Thursday.

The resident of the camp site, 54-year-old Raynard Arizo, was arrested for Drug Paraphernalia and third degree Promotion of a Dangerous Drug.

The joint investigation was initiated as a result of concerns raised by community members. The camp site was located on Puolo Road at the Hanapēpē Beach Park and included two vehicles, an illegal structure and numerous miscellaneous items.

“With the help of DLNR, we were able to dismantle the illegal structure, haul two dump trucks worth of items, and remove two derelict vehicles over the course of two days,” said Assistant Chief of the Patrol Services Bureau Ale Quibilan. “We executed a drug-related arrest and most importantly, we were able to return this portion of the park back to the public. We hope park-goers feel a little safer now that the area is clean and clear of debris.”

Police are continuing their investigation.
