Given that curiosity, peer pressure and rebellion can trigger drug abuse, parents must provide their children with opportunities that foster self-esteem and self-respect, qualities that foster good decision-making and keep them out of harm’s way. This can include involving children in home and family life by assigning them responsibility such as household chores, showing interest in their homework, and eating meals together. Families should also enjoy recreational activities and outings.
