100-LB ULUA CAUGHT IN THE 2013 HAWAII OCEAN EXPO’S GT MASTERS CUP FISHING TOURNAMENT

In a rare turn of events, one of the contestants in this year’s GT Master’s Cup, the annual shoreline fishing tournament that is a major attraction at the Hawaii Ocean Expo, has called in a giant Ulua fish that unofficially weighs in at 99.5 lbs.

“Some people will never see a 100-pounder in their lifetime. This is so rare,” said Hawaii Ocean Expo founder Russ Inouye. “In all the years I’ve been fishing, I’ve only seen this happen once.”

Whenever contestants catch a fish for the GT Master’s Cup Tournament, they are required to call it in, and the judging crew goes out to weigh it. On the un-certified scale, the massive fish weighed in at 99.5 lbs, which may actually round out to 100 lbs on the official scale.

All fish caught for the GT Master’s Cup tournament will be presented on stage at the Neil Blaisdell Exhibition Halls on Sunday, April 14. Weigh-ins start at 11 a.m., with the Uluas weighed last as a grand finale at 2 -3 p.m.

The grand prize winner of the GT Master’s Cup shoreline fishing tournament  will walk away with a $3,000 cash jackpot AND a round trip for two people to Alaska, courtesy of Alaska Air and Vacations Hawaii, plus a 4-day, 5-night fishing adventure at Shelter Lodge, courtesy of Alaska Reel Adventures!
