REPORT FROM COMMUNICATIONS PACIFIC – Television newsman Ron Mizutani, longtime anchor of KHON2 News at 5, will be joining Communications Pacific (CommPac) as senior vice president. Scheduled to start at CommPac on June 1, Mizutani will be principally involved in the community building work for which CommPac has established a strong reputation over the past 15 years.

“Ron brings so many assets to CommPac that it’s hard to list them all,” said Kitty Lagareta, CommPac CEO. “He is a team builder, a team player and a seasoned communicator. He has a gift for connecting with people, and he has in fact done so with a broad range of individuals, at all levels, throughout Hawaii. He is a leader, and he will bring tremendous knowledge and experience to our firm and our clients.”

“For nearly 28 years, I’ve worked to build trust and relationships in the community. Now I want to try putting that experience to work, helping build bridges between communities and businesses,” said Mizutani. “I’ve always respected CommPac – its business, its staff and its clients – and I’m humbled by this opportunity.”

“We at KHON2 will miss Ron for his strong presence in the newsroom,” said KHON2 President and General Manager Joe MacNamara. “Ron has served us well; his passion was infectious and his influence upon others was remarkable. We certainly wish Ron all the best in his new leadership role with Communications Pacific.”

With only a brief interruption in 2007-2008, Mizutani has been with KHON2 News since 1985. He began in the sports department, working under Les Keiter for 11 years before moving to news, where for four years he co-anchored Hawaii’s Morning News with Leslie Wilcox. He then served as sports director for several years before reuniting with Wilcox to co-anchor Hawaii at 5. In August 2007, Mizutani moved to Hawaiian Telcom to serve as vice president of corporate communications, but found it was not the right fit or the right time and returned to KHON2. Mizutani is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he earned a degree in journalism.

CommPac’s innovative community building work involves collaborating with both government and private-sector clients on a variety of construction and development projects, as well as cultural issues, that require communicating intensively with communities throughout the state. Working to assist clients whose projects lie at the point, often at the grass roots, where government, community and business come together, CommPac has compiled an enviable record of building consensus among people and organizations that often have remarkably differing missions.

Communications Pacific is Hawaii’s leading integrated communications company, offering public relations, marketing and community building, including land use and real estate projects and other issues. Hawaii’s “go to” communicators, CommPac is a trusted advisor to clients and partners. It strives not only to bring clients success, but also, in every way possible, to strengthen communities, the economy, and the social and cultural fiber of these Islands. For more than four decades, CommPac has provided strategic – and creative – communications counsel that gets results. It is a member of IPREX, one of the largest international partnerships of independent communications firms in major markets around the globe, providing clients with global reach while working with the local expertise of its award-winning partner firms.
