Sacred Hearts Academy received a $10,000 award toward on-going health programs and activities from the CHEST Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), a 17,500-member international medical specialty society.

Forty-five volunteers from the American College of Chest Physicians and the Ambassadors Group taught Lung LessonsSM to grades 5 and 6.

Students participated in singing “Love, Love, Love Your Lungs” and learned from visual displays of healthy lungs and diseased lungs.

The Lung Lesson ProgramSM consists of an overview of how the lung functions, what asthma is, and how smoking damages lungs.

The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) is holding CHEST 2011 in Honolulu, October 22-26.
