Salvation Army Hosts Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at Blaisdell Center

The Salvation Army will hold its 42nd annual Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, November 22 at the Neal Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.
An entertainment program will precede the dinner which will be served at noon.  Frank De Lima, The Honolulu Boy Choir, Joe and Shirley Recca, Halau Hula o Namakahulali, The Salvation Brass Band, Gospel Choir and hula halau will provide entertainment to the 2,000 expected guests.

The event has become a tradition since 1970 and welcomes anyone in the community, particularly those who are alone, homeless, elderly and needy, and those wishing to have a festive Thanksgiving dinner.

The Thanksgiving dinner is free and no one is turned away.

Salvation Army units on all islands will be serving Thanksgiving meals similar to the one held at the Blaisdell Center. Deliveries of food to the disabled, frail and elderly will also be made to many homes.

Last year alone, The Salvation Army served and delivered more than 7,000 meals and distributed hundreds of turkeys to families in need.

Each year the community in general has participated in this annual event. At the Blaisdell event, more than 800 volunteers provide time, energy and resources to make it all possible. Companies large and small contribute food, cash, facilities, as well as volunteer time.  Food brokers, bakeries, restaurants, florists, supermarkets, and hotels have made contributions to the Thanksgiving dinner.

Bank of Hawaii, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and the City and County of Honolulu help sponsor the event.
