I was greatly offended by the patronizing tone of House Speaker Calvin Say, who made a speech at the opening day of the Legislature, Jan. 18, 2006.

First, he trivialized Gov. Linda Lingle’s proposed $300 million in tax relief as the equivalent of a few plate lunches.

Later in his remarks he endorsed the concept of public-private partnerships in the area of affordable housing as one reason to forego tax relief all together.
