Steve McGarrett’s New Love?

Alex O’Laughlin’s character on Hawaii Five-O may see new action next session, and not just the kind that involves blowing up cars and jumping out of helicopters. He may have a new love interest on his hands, according to The Hollywood Reporter and TVLine.

Lauren German, best known for her role in the ABC series, Happy Town, and her starring roles in various horror shows, will join the cast this season as an ex-Homeland Security officer who is drafted by the new governor to watch the special division.

The Hollywood Reporter also speculates “there’s also potential for romance between the character and O’Loughlin’s McGarrett – for obvious reasons.”

New Poll Shows Lingle in the Lead

A Hawaii Reporter informal web poll shows former Gov. Linda Lingle in the lead for U.S. Senate should she opt to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka. The poll is ongoing and includes former Democratic Congressman Ed Case, Congresswoman Mazie Hirono, both Democrats, and Lingle, a Republican, and an option for “none of the above.”

Currently, with more than 400 people voting, Lingle leads with 46 percent; with Case at 24 percent and Hirono at 12 percent. The none of the above category has gained more votes than Hirono with 18 percent.

Both Case and Hirono are running against each other in the Democratic primary in 2012.

It is not too late to cast your vote at the bottom of Hawaii Reporter’s home page.

Former Gov. Linda Lingle to Speak at Milton Friedman Birthday Celebration

Former Gov. Linda Lingle will speak at a celebration of Dr. Milton Friedman’s 99th birthday set for Friday, July 29th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center in Honolulu.

Before he passed away in 2006 at the age of 94, he and his wife created the Milton and Rose D. Friedman Foundation, “for the purpose of promoting parental choice of the schools their children attend.”

A prolific author, he and his wife also published their memoirs: Milton and Rose D. Friedman, Two Lucky People: Memoirs (University of Chicago Press, 1998).

The event is sponsored jointly by Smart Business Hawaii, Small Business Hawaii Entrepreneurial Education Foundation and the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii.

Eagle Eyes: Kahaluu Lions Club Sponsors FREE Vision & Retina Exams on August 11

The Kahaluu Lions Clubs is sponsoring the Oahu based Project Vision Hawaii RV.  The mobile vision screening vehicle will be at the Family Community Center, 47-200 Waihe’e Road in Kahaluu on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Project Vision Hawaii is a non-profit 501(c)3 service with a mission to enhance the quality of life by improving sight, preventing blindness, and advancing medical knowledge through research.  Costs through private vision providers range at approximately $150 for this type of testing.  The RV is funded by OHA, Ohana, The Freeman Foundation, and the Atherton Foundation.  Data entry volunteers are provided by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), who also handles the result and recommendation mail outs.

The Project Vision Hawaii RV is a mobile screening unit equipped with state-of-the art digital imaging equipment that takes high quality photos of the inside of the eye in a matter of minutes, without the need for medication or pupil dilatation.  The unit is staffed by both paid medical personnel and trained volunteers.

The entire process takes approximately 10 minutes. An Ophthalmologist reviews images, and results are sent to each participant as well as to a local eye doctor upon request. Referrals to local specialists can also be facilitated. For further information, contact Annie Hiller (808) 282-2265 or email annie@projectvisionhawaii.com
