Friends of Duke Bainum, the political organization running the campaign of Duke Bainum for Mayor of Honolulu, and other supporters of Bainum, claim the story in Hawaii Reporter regarding Bainum's current wife's role in defrauding an elderly man of several hundred thousand dollars whom she worked for from 1995 to 1997, was fabricated by Hawaii Reporter.

"Controversy Surrounds Final Years of Life of Masumi Murasaki and His Caregiver, Jennifer Alonso-Toma, Now Wife of Mayoral Candidate Duke Bainum"
The story, which documented Jennifer Toma-Bainum's role as the caretaker for the 85-year-old Masumi Murasaki, is based on court records, police reports, a city autopsy report, checks and receipts, tax records, and an expense report submitted by Jennifer and her then husband, Anthony Alonso.
In response to this criticism, and to give readers a firsthand look at the records, Hawaii Reporter is publishing these legal documents from the case. Several more are being added throughout the day today, so check back for the full court filing and other relevant correspondence.
