Electric Vehicles Key Step in Clean Energy Pursuit as Part of Five-Point Economic Plan
By Gov. Linda Lingle, 12/12/2008 8:49:47 AM

This week we hosted an exciting announcement, launching the establishment of an electric vehicle infrastructure in Hawai‘i. As the first state to launch a statewide initiative, we are laying out a model for the rest of the nation.

Better Place, one of the world’s leaders in sustainable transportation, will begin designing a network of charging stations to support electric vehicles this year and will be introducing the vehicles into the market in 2010.

Pursuing electric vehicles is a significant move toward our state gaining independence from foreign oil. This public-private partnership exemplifies our efforts to carry out our Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative, which will allow us to achieve the goal of 70 percent clean energy by 2030.
