Weekly Unemployment for the Week of August 7, 2010

The weekly unemployment statistics update is now on our DBEDT Internet site at:

Shown below is a quick look at this week's unemployment data - initial claims filed.
Statewide initial unemployment claims decreased by 12.2%, with this week’s total filings of 2,217 and filings during the same week in 2009 of 2,525.

Comparing 2010 to 2009 for the counties:

·     Oahu had 186 fewer claims filed
·     Hawaii had 89 fewer claims filed
·     Maui had 69 fewer claims filed
·     Kauai had 3 fewer claims filed

In percentage changes, comparing the current week to the same week a year ago:

·     Oahu had a 13.3% decrease
·     Hawaii had a 17.8% decrease
·     Maui had a 16.9% decrease
·     Kauai had a 1.8% decrease
