BY REP. KYMBERLY PINE – After the HECO power outage and tsunami hit Ewa Beach in March, many in our community realized that we are not yet prepared for the kinds of disasters our homes and families are at risk of experiencing.
So as part of September’s National Preparedness Month, my office is working with experienced members of our community to coordinate a “Get Ready Ewa Beach” Emergency Preparedness Fair. The event will focus on tsunami and hurricane preparedness, how to create a family plan, supply kits, evacuations, health emergencies and insurance.
Experts from the Department of Emergency Management, State Civil Defense, FEMA, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America and dozens of other organizations have been invited to host informational booths, seminars and training sessions.

The family-friendly fair will be open to all ages and include fun activities for children as well as preparedness information specifically geared toward older residents.

The Community Preparedness Webinar Series invites you to participate in a webinar discussing volunteering in times of disaster. The webinar will highlight the best practices of volunteer managers and those interested in volunteering during disasters. It will include perspectives from community organizations and state and local emergency management who have experienced specific challenges, and organizations that are heavily engaged in volunteer management. This webinar will be helpful to those who are interested in becoming volunteers and for volunteer managers seeking practical knowledge.

The Community Preparedness Webinar Series is conducted via DHS’s HSIN Connect system. You do not need to register in advance, nor do you need a HSIN account in order to view FEMA webinars.
