Viewers Not Nuts About Roseanne Barr’s Big Island-based Reality Show

Roseanne Barr, a once popular comedian who tried to make a comeback via a Big Island-based reality showed that she called “Roseanne’s Nuts” (possibly a double meaning – she is nuts and she has nuts on her macadamia nut farm), said on Twitter that her Lifetime series will be cancelled after the first season.

Roseanne’s Nuts has been canceled. Thanks everyone for watching!” she said.

That’s no surprise – the show, which had low ratings, consisted of a camera following Barr, her partner Johnny Argent and son Jake Pentland as they worked and lived on their 46-acre Hawaii macadamia nut farm located above Waipio Road.

What is a surprise – they came up with enough material to air the show for 16 episodes – but just barely.

Barr’s move to the quiet Big Island community did not come without controversy.

The star, who liked to wear brightly colored touristy tropical clothes and fake flowers, almost immediately got into a fight with her Kona neighbor.

TMZ reported in March 2011:

Roseanne Barr claims her neighbor is a gun-toting NIGHTMARE — who slaughtered the comic’s goats as part of a campaign of terror … this according to legal docs obtained by TMZ.

Barr — who lives on a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii — filed a request for a restraining order against her neighbor Roree Oehlman and her husband Richard … claiming the couple has had it out for Rosie since she moved in.

According to the docs, Roseanne claims the problems began from the moment she moved in — when her neighbors declared they don’t want any “Kaballah studying [that means Jewish) people here on the Big Island.”

Roseanne says Roree claims to have guns — and often harasses and even threatens the comic.

In fact, Roseanne claims one morning she found two of her four goats had been killed — and shortly after Rosie discovered the bodies, her neighbor allegedly told Roseanne’s son-in-law, “That’s what happens when you piss people off.”

Rosie wants a judge to ban the couple from getting anywhere near her property — or contacting any member of her family.

Roree, who allegedly witnessed illegal grading on her property, had earlier filed a complaint against Barr in the “interest of public safety.”

The county of Hawaii did cite Barr for the illegal grading on her property and told her to halt work until her permits were applied for and approved.

She continued her abrasive behavior and loud dialogue throughout the summer season. The episodes mainly consisted of her pulling mild stunts and getting into arguments with her own family members.

For those with morbid curiosity, back episodes are on line at Lifetime.com

Hogue Presents Athletic Award to HPU

He is a celebrity, but unlike Rozanne Barr, he’s not nuts.

Bob Hogue, a former television sports anchor, state senator and author turned PacWest Commissioner, will be on Oahu this Friday.

He’ll present Hawai’i Pacific University with the Pacific West Conference’s Commissioner’s Cup, which is an award for the best overall athletics program run during the 2010-2011 school year.

HPU Athletics Director Darren Vorderbruegge will be on hand to receive the award.

The school reports: “With an average finish of nearly third place across all 11 Pacific West sports, Hawai’i Pacific captured the Commissioner’s Cup for the second time in as many years. The Sea Warriors were co-champions in softball and finished second in women’s tennis, men’s soccer, baseball and women’s cross country. HPU took third in volleyball, women’s basketball, and men’s cross country, and tied for third in women’s soccer. In the four years the Commissioner’s Cup has been contested in the PacWest, HPU has finished no lower than fourth and has finished at least second or higher in each of the last three seasons. The match will feature HPU vs. Notre Dame de Namur and start at 7:00 PM.”

Hirono’s Email Campaign Against the ‘Rich’

Congresswoman Mazie Hirono, D-HI, launched a campaign against the so called “rich” today. In an email sent today to her supporters, the Democrat wrote:

National Republicans claim that asking millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share in taxes is somehow “class warfare.” Ridiculous.

When billionaire investor Warren Buffett pays a lower effective tax rate than his secretary, even he admits there’s a problem. So President Obama is right when he says that this is a matter of simple fairness and simple math — and I am proud to join him in pushing back hard against the GOP. But it will take more than our strong words and President Obama’s veto threat to end wasteful tax giveaways to millionaires and billionaires: We must enact President Obama’s proposed “Buffett Rule,” which would ensure that millionaires and billionaires stop paying lower tax rates than the rest of us do.

The Congresswoman asked her constituents to sign a letter to Republican House Speaker John Boehner “urging him to allow a clean up-or-down vote on President Obama’s bold new ‘Buffett Rule.’ She said she will hand-deliver the petition next week to his office.

Comedian Charles Memminger, in Charleyworld column today in Hawaii Reporter, suggests that the “rich” should be eaten, after they are taxed to death.

He writes: “President Obama and fellow progressives think it’s time to raise taxes on the uber-rich, but I don’t think that goes far enough. I favor author P.J. O’Rourke’s position on what to do with all the financial fat cats out there: Eat them.”
