”’GRIH Comment: John Hood of the Carolina Journal has once again hit the nail on the head with an issue that runs parallel to what we recently experienced here in Hawaii, that when push comes to shove politicians can only think about raising taxes. In a manner that is very reminiscent of the last minute turnabout in this state on the GET tax to fund rail, politicians in that state wavered back and forth until they finally settled on the only solution politicians seem to understand, raising taxes. While the tax burden in there is average, as John notes in his column, the same is not true here where our state tax burden is among the highest, if not the highest in the country. (dn)”’
