By Navy Region Hawaii Public Affairs – PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM – At approximately 5:15 p.m., Aug. 27, the Federal Fire Dept. and Honolulu Police Dept. responded to a distress call received by the Wheeler Army Air Field control tower.

A civilian fixed wing single-engine aircraft reported engine trouble and crashed into a pineapple field about one mile south of Wheeler. (Initial reports to first responders that the aircraft was a helicopter were incorrect.)

The pilot and his passenger, both adult males, exited the downed helicopter on their own; neither appeared to have suffered any life-threatening injuries. FFD provided medical treatment at the scene and transported the pilot and passenger to an area hospital for further evaluation and medical treatment.

The crash site was turned over to Honolulu Police Department who contacted the FAA.

This incident occurred on private property; there is no further information from the Navy or Federal Fire Department.

  1. Human errors will be around for a long time from now on. We simply can't automate absolutely everything and this might be both a good and a bad thing…

  2. Well the pinneaple field was their save, for sure. Because if they crushed on a house, it would be other situation.
