Speaker Joseph M. Souki announced today that Representative Rida Cabanilla (Ocean Pointe, West Loch, Ewa Gentry, Ewa Villages, Ewa Beach) has been appointed Majority Floor Leader of the Hawaii House of Representatives. She replaces Representative Karen Awana who resigned the position last Friday.

Representative Cabanilla currently serves as the Chair of the Committee on Housing and was first elected to the State House in 2005 to represent the residents of Ewa, Waipahu, Honouliuli, and West Loch. She is a registered nurse and serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserves (Surgical Readiness Command, Fort Shafter).

“I have long respected Rep. Cabanilla as a colleague and I appreciate that she has accepted the responsibilities of Majority Floor Leader. I believe that she will continue to work for the people of her district and the state and remain a positive force here in the Legislature,” said Speaker Souki.
