Green Day III in Nuʻuanu — Sustaining, Recycling and Vermicomposting

Nu’uanu Congregational Church’s Ulu Wai Ministry is holding its “Green Day III” on April 23, 2016,  from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at 2651 Pali Highway. All proceeds will go to Ulu Wai’s Missions Ministry.

red_wiggler_worms_flickr_capmconnundrum_cc_2There will be something for everyone!  Boy Scout Troop 201 will be joining Ulu Wai Ministry to do eco friendly waterless car washes (includes vacuuming) in the makai parking lot from 9-3 for just $10! While waiting for your car to be washed, enjoy some spam sushi and andagi.  Saunter down to Kosasa Hall and shop at the Green Day III Fair.  The Free Cycling section will have gently used clothing, linens, towels, bags, shoes and small appliances “free for the taking”.  Rummage sale items will be sold at slashed prices!  There will also be a variety of handmade craft items ***, plants, beneficial microbes for bokashi, hydroponic items (simple hydroponic kits & fresh lettuce available), red wiggler worms, worms castings and worm tea for sale at affordable prices.  Also check out the e-waste team as well as the paper shredding services (3 box limit: 1st box of papers is free, $5 each for 2nd & 3rd Box).****

At 9:30 a.m. Ralph, da Worm Guy, will share his mana’o about the role of bacteria in vermicomposting, how to make worm tea and how a worm bin works.*****   At 11:00 a.m. bokashi experts, Jan and Lee Ann, will talk about bokashi and beneficial microbes.

**   NCC’s Missions Ministry (e.g. Homeless, shelters, designated non profits dedicated to elderly/shut-ins, abused, youth, individual/group emergency needs).

***    Craft items include: neck pillows, infinity scarves, scrubbies, bags, remnant fabrics

****   e-waste will be collected by Pacific Corporate Solutions.  Materials Accepted:  only desktop laptop computers, CPUs, CRT and LCD monitors, printers, fax machines, keyboards, mice, scanner, servers, routers, telecom equipment, DVD players, VCRs, MP3 players, speakers, telephones, cellular phones, stereo equipment, digital and video cameras, calculators, electronic boards and cords/cables.   Shred-It Inc. will be collecting the boxes of papers that need to be shredded
