college football hall of fame logoATLANTA  The countdown has started. The team has been selected. And on Aug. 13, a Honolulu resident will be among 100 fans of Chick-fil-A and college football who will camp overnight inside the new College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience, getting a sneak preview of the shrine to college football players and fans, and winning a year of free Chick-fil-A food as the chain opens its newest restaurant directly next door to the Hall.

After 10 years and more than $21.5 million in free food given away, Chick-fil-A’s “First 100” celebration continues to be the chain’s signature grand opening event, but for the opening at 246 Marietta Street in downtown Atlanta, participants have literally won their way onto the Hall’s indoor 45-yard football field.

Chick-fil-A, a founding sponsor of the Hall, will open its newest restaurant as part of the complex and will celebrate by hosting a 12-hour countdown to the Aug. 14 opening. In July, a contest was held inviting college football fans from around the country to write a 250-word essay detailing their love of college football for the chance to stay overnight in the Hall and win the year’s supply of Chick-fil-A. From the entries, 100 were chosen with participants coming from across the country with one University of Hawaii fan, Sherilyn Luke of Honolulu even traveling to Atlanta to camp out.

Each winner will arrive Aug. 13 and is allowed to bring one guest. The crowd of 200 will set up tents on the field and be among the first to experience the interactive and immersive College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience before it opens to the public on Aug. 23. The night will also include football- and Chick-fil-A-themed entertainment, presentations by other founding Hall sponsors and of course plenty of Chick-fil-A.

The new restaurant seats more than 160 and features soaring windows allowing plenty of natural light along with the chain’s latest interior design which includes subway tile and metals in a variety of finishes and patinas. The dining room also includes four flat screen TVs so guests won’t miss any football action. The new restaurant offers the convenience of free Wi-Fi and outdoor seating. The College Football Hall of Fame Chick-fil-A restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., serving a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m.
