North Korea has fired two short-range missiles off its eastern coast, the second such launch in less than a week.

The South Korean news agency Yonhap said the missiles fired Monday were likely to be Scud-C models. They are believed to have flown about 500 kilometers.

Thursday, Pyongyang fired four Scud missiles into the sea off North Korea’s eastern coast, just days after South Korea and the United States began their annual joint military exercises. North Korea views those drills as an unacceptable provocation.

The South Korean Defense Ministry said the North Korean Scuds are normally fired using mobile launch pads. The distance would mean the missiles are capable hitting targets in both South Korea as well as Japan.
